Men’s Golf Climbs Standings at Brickyard Collegiate Championship
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s golf team tied No. 3 Augusta State and Mississippi for the fifth-best team score on day two of the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship at the Brickyard at Riverside. Mercer’s team score of 294 moved the Bears into 13th place, ahead of both Gonzaga and Boston College.
No. 19 Georgia leads the field after recording a team score of 284 on Saturday. Georgia (571) is nine strokes ahead of both No. 47 Florida State and No. 17 Georgia Tech entering Sunday’s final round.
Mercer’s two-day total of 599 places the Bears just one stroke behind No. 47 Colorado State.
Sophomore Matt Kocolowski led the Bears on Saturday with a team-best one-under, 71. Kocolowski tallied five birdies on the day and is now tied for 22nd place individually.
Junior Stefan Labuschagne started on the 10th hole Saturday morning and proceeded to scorch the back-nine to the tune of a three-under 33. The highlight of Labuschagne’s day came when the Pretoria, South Africa native holed in a chip on the 18th hole to record an eagle.
Labuschagne finished the day with an even-par 72 and is tied for 24th place individually.
John Gregory Joseph signed for a 75 on Saturday and is now tied for 54th place individually. Macon native Thomas Holmes needed 76 strokes on Saturday and moved into a tie for 76th place.
Junior Josh Cone shot 77 in the second round and will begin the final day tied for 51st place overall. Freshman Mookie DeMoss competed as an individual and also shot 77 on Saturday. DeMoss is now tied for 38th place.
Alex Street rounded out Mercer’s competitors, carding an 83 on Saturday.
The final round of the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship is scheduled to start Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
