Mercer Golfers on a Mission in Cambodia

MACON, Ga. – Both the men’s and women’s golf teams will be represented in the 2011 “Mercer on a Mission” campaign scheduled for May 25-June 16.  Thomas Holmes and Jessica Arthur are two of just three undergraduate students selected to travel to Cambodia as representatives of Mercer’s School of Medicine.

Mercer On Mission (MoM) is a unique blend of study abroad and service-learning that provides life-changing experiences for students through academic instruction, cultural immersion, meaningful service, and spiritual reflection.

MoM 2011 Cambodia Medical Team facilitates the opportunity for Mercer medical, pharmacy, nursing and undergraduate students to provide hands-on culturally appropriate medical care in rural underserved areas of Cambodia under the direction of Cambodian health care partners.

While the trip will put a hiatus on the summer’s golf practice, both coach Andrew Tredway and Gary Guyer recognize the value of the experience.

“We are extremely proud of Thomas for what he’s doing and we wish him a safe journey,” Tredway said.

“[Jessica] is always pushing herself to be the best.  It’s nice to see that her hard work pay off with the experience of a lifetime,” Guyer commented.
