Mens Golf Tied for Eighth at the Invitational at Kiawah
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Mercer men’s golf team posted a cumulative score of 603 in the first two rounds of the Invitational at Kiawah at the Ocean Course Monday. The Bears posted a 304 in the first round and improved upon that score by five strokes in the second round to finish the day tied with Texas State University.
Notre Dame (584) leads the tournament, followed by North Carolina State (585) and host team College of Charleston (588). Vanderbilt (592) and Coastal Carolina (593) rounded out the top-five teams.
Mercer junior Josh Cone fired Mercer’s low round of the day, posting a one-under 71 in the second round. Cone’s 71 combined with a first-round 76 as the Thomasville, Ga. native finished the day tied for ninth individually.
Sophomore Matt Kocolowski recorded a two-round total of 153 and is tied for 33rd place individually. Kocolowski’s classmate Thomas Holmes finished Monday with a total score of 154 and is tied for 38th individually.
Mercer’s Mookie DeMoss and Stefan Labuschagne each used 155 strokes on Monday and are with three others for 42nd place. John Gregory Joseph finished day one with a total of 158 to round out Mercer’s competitors.
Mercer is just three strokes behind UAB for seventh place. The Bears wrap up the Invitational at Kiawah in Tuesday’s final round, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
