Men's Golf Lands Mookie DeMoss
MACON, Ga. – One year after assembling the 17th ranked freshman class in the country, Mercer men’s golf coach Andrew Tredway is making waves in the recruiting game again, introducing Mookie DeMoss as the newest member of the team.
DeMoss, a native of Duluth, Ga., has signed a national letter
of intent and marks the first signee of the 2011 freshman
class.
“We are so excited about signing Mookie DeMoss to play
for us at Mercer,” Tredway said. “He had a lot of
opportunities to go elsewhere and the fact that he chose to come
here speaks volumes about how far our program has come in the last
several years.”
DeMoss joins the program after considerable success as a
junior golfer. This fall, DeMoss won the International Golf
Tour’s event at Falcon Fire Country Club, outpacing 44 other
competitors with a two-round total of 146 (74-72).
“Mookie comes from a great family and its been great how
honest they have been in the recruiting process,” Tredway
said. “I think this is a perfect fit and we are going
to have an awesome time having him in our program.”
In August, DeMoss fired a 68-75 to capture the victory over 28
other golfers the Hurricane Junior Tour event in Athens.
Another notable finish for DeMoss came at the AJGA Ringgold
Telephone Junior Classic held June 1-4. In that event, DeMoss
fired a 218 (73-73-72) to place among the top 30
participants.
“I’m impressed with Mookie’s work ethic and
his desire to complete at this level,” Tredway said.
“I think we’ve signed a gritty competitor and I’m
thrilled for the opportunity to coach him the next four
years.”
DeMoss’ work ethic will be key as he joins a Mercer team
that finished the year ranked 17th among
Golfstat’s Freshman Class Impact Rankings. DeMoss and
the rest of the Bears are set to tee-off next year’s action
on Sept 13 at the Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah
Island, S.C.
