Men's Golf Tied for 4th at A-Sun Championships

No. 31 ETSU retained its lead of the field with a cumulative score of 290 on Tuesday. The Buccaneers lead the field with a two-day total of 571. No. 20 UNF sits three strokes back while FGCU is ten strokes behind ETSU.

"We hung in there pretty well today and kept ourselves in it," head coach Andrew Tredway said. "You're always going to go through tough periods where you struggle, but the guys were able to soften the blow today. That's exactly what you need to do in order to win tournaments."

Mercer senior Matt Tribby led the way for the Bears on day two, carding a team-low 73. Tribby's two-day total now stands at 146 and the Gainsville, Fla. native is tied for 12th place individually.

On Tuesday, freshman William Meason fired a two-over, 74 and is tied for 8th place individually. Meason (145) is tied with three other golfers who are four shots off the leader's pace.

Meason's classmate Thomas Holmes improved upon his day-one score by four strokes on Tuesday. Holmes' 75 in round two places the Macon native tied for 41st place. Senior Matt Smith shot a 77 in round two and is now tied for 29th place. Freshman John Gregory Joseph followed up a stellar opening round with an 81. Joseph is tied for 38th place individually.

"We've got to go out and have a special round tomorrow and you never know what might happen," Tredway said.
