Men's Golf to Co-Host Linger Longer Invitational

The Mercer men's golf team pairs with Kennesaw State this weekend to co-host the Linger Longer Invitational, marking the third-straight year the programs have combined to put on the event. Once again the event is one of the premier collegiate golf tournaments in the country, highlighted by a handful of the elite teams in the nation.

This year's field features six of the country's top 25 programs, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 8 Florida State, No. 18 Georgia, No. 20 Georgia Tech and No. 22 Alabama.

"The Linger Longer has become one of the most prestigious events in the nation and we are honored to co-host it with Kennesaw State," said Mercer head coach Andrew Tredway. "Just last year we were paired with Oklahoma State and Rickie Fowler at this event. Fowler has since gone on to have a lot of success this year on the PGA Tour. This year the field is so deep and having No. 1 Oklahoma State and the defending national champions Texas A & M is great for our event."

The Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. is once again the site of competition. The 7, 051 yard, par 72 course is the original resort community set on 10 miles of lakefront at Lake Oconee.

Last year, Georgia captured the championship with a team score of 867. Oklahoma State's Trent Whitekiller took home the individual title with total score of 208. Mercer (885) finished fourth among the 13-team field.

The Landing Golf Course is located 75 miles east of Atlanta via interstate 20. In 2007, GolfStyles Atlanta Magazine included the course in tits list of "100 Must Play Courses of Georgia". The venue has also been featured in Readers' Choice Top 50 Private Courses by Golfworld Magazine.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will each feature one round of competition. Click here for live scoring on the event.
