Men’s Basketball to Learn NIT Fate Sunday Evening
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's basketball team will learn its postseason fate on Sunday night, as the field for the 2013 NIT is announced on ESPNU in a 9 p.m. selection show. As regular season Atlantic Sun Champions, the Bears join eight other teams with automatic qualification in the event.
Mercer (23-11, 14-4 A-Sun) prepares to head to postseason play for the second-straight season after competing in the CollegeInsider.com tournament (CIT) a season ago. The Bears enter this year's postseason play on a five-game postseason winning streak after capturing the CIT title over Utah State on March 28, 2012.
Other automatic qualifiers for the NIT are Charleston Southern, Robert Morris, Louisiana Tech, Long Beach State, Norfolk State, Northeastern, Stony Brook and Niagara. The tournament selection committee will reveal the 32-team bracket on Sunday night after selection for the NCAA Tournament has been completed.
The NIT is contested at home-sites for the first round, second round and quarterfinals before moving to Madison Square Garden for the semifinal and final round. The first round games are scheduled for March 19 and 20.
