Men’s Basketball Inks White Jr.

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's basketball head coach Bob Hoffman announced his first acquisition of the 2012 signing class, inking Anthony White Jr. of Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. to a National Letter of Intent.  White Jr. is set to join the Bears in the fall of 2012 for the first of two seasons of Division I eligibility.

White's two-year stay at Lake Land saw the 6-foot-2 guard pour in 637 points, highlighted by a sensational sophomore campaign in which he averaged 15.0 points per game.  White's second year with the Lakers saw him knock down 40% of his three pointers and shoot at 82% efficiency from the free throw line.

The Indianapolis, Ind. native also padded his sophomore year stats with 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game on his way to All-Region and All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference first-team honors.  His on-court excellence catapulted the Lakers to a 22-10 record and conference championship.

"I'm extremely happy for Anthony," Lake Land College Head Coach Cedric Brown said.  "He has been like another son and he is well deserving of this opportunity."

White Jr. joins Hoffman's group of young, budding talent coming off a banner year.  The 2011-12 Bears finished the season with a 27-11 record and a CollegeInsider.com Tournament Championship, and will return to action next year missing just one player from that record-setting team.
