MACON, Ga. – A group of Mercer University men's basketball players and staff took some time away from the court to lend a hand with a "Rebuilding Macon" community service project on Saturday. The Bears participated in a home rehabilitation project coordinated by the Ingleside Baptist Church.

MU's hoop squad members helped out on everything from lawn clean-up and shrubbery removal, to scraping, patching and painting walls and trim. The entire project involved roof repairs, fixture installations and other carpentry needs, for which the Bears provided some welcome support.

"I was glad that our team members were able to partner with the Ingleside Baptist Church to lend some 'muscle' on such a great project," MU head coach Bob Hoffman said. "One of the things we want to instill in our players is the notion of civic responsibility; to give back to the community.

"As much as I'm sure all the extra hands were appreciated by the project coordinators, it is just as beneficial to our young men. The interaction with community members and the satisfaction of helping out like that is a priceless life lesson."
