Bears Host Florida A&M for Pair of Mid-Week Games
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team wraps up a six-game home stand with two mid-week tilts against Florida A&M starting on Tuesday night at Claude Smith Field.
Game one is on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., with game two scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Last Time Out
Redshirt junior David Randall did his part on the mound and the Mercer baseball team generated just enough offense to pull out a 2-1 series finale win over Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon at Claude Smith Field.
Randall was dynamite on the mound for the Bears all day long to help salvage the series against the Owls. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native went 5.2 innings and allowed only four hits while striking out six in arguably his best start of the 2012 season.
Redshirt sophomore Nick Backlund and sophomore Derrick Workman had two hits apiece, while junior Evan Boyd reached base all four times he came up to bat from his leadoff position in the line-up.
Scouting the Opposition
Florida A&M enters play on Tuesday with a 4-16 overall record after dropping two-out-of-three to fellow MEAC member Savannah State this past weekend. The Bears and Rattlers have already met twice this season, with Mercer sweeping a doubleheader in Tallahassee by scores of 8-2 and 19-1 in mid-February. Florida A&M is led offensively by MEAC Preseason All-Conference selection Jarryd Reid who paces the squad with 12 runs scored, 22 hits and 12 stolen bases.
Quick Hits
- Mercer holds a 69-23-1 lead in the all-time series against Florida A&M and have defeated the Rattlers 13-straight times dating back to the 2008 season.
