Former MU Baseball Standout Honored by L.A. Dodgers Organization
LOS ANGELES – Former Mercer University baseball standout Joe Winker was named as the June winner of the Dodger Pride Award for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Arizona rookie level summer league team.
The Dodger Pride Awards were created in 2008 by General Manager Ned Colletti, and are given on a monthly basis to the players at each level of the club's minor league system who play the game with a hustling, smart, aggressive style. The players and staff on each respective club vote for the awards.
For the month of June, Winker batted .400 (12-for-30) with two doubles, a triple and eight RBI in seven June games. Overall, the 21-year-old has hit safely in nine of his first 10 professional games and is batting .526 with runners in scoring position (10-for-19).
Winker was selected by the Dodgers in the 28th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
