Preseason Honors Continue to Pour in for Tanis

MACON, Ga. – Mercer junior third baseman Jacob Tanis continues to pile up awards, receiving three more preseason honors over the past week.

The Peachtree City, Ga. product was named to the 2011 Preseason All-American third team by both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and College Baseball Lineup. Tanis has now been named a Preseason Third Team All-American by four publications including the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Louisville Slugger.

Tanis collected another impressive accolade when he was recently ranked the 94th best college baseball player in the country according to College Baseball Daily.

With the Bears’ 2011 season just 43 days away, it is fairly obvious people haven’t forgotten how impressive Tanis’ 2010 campaign was. The Bears third baseman hit .388 with team-high totals of 22 home runs and 88 RBI. Tanis’s name littered the NCAA leaders as he finished 40th in the nation in runs scored (69), 10th in hits (104), tied for 19th in doubles (25), 12th in home runs (22), second in RBI (88), 31st in slugging percentage (.735) and third in total bases (197).
