Tanis Takes Home Atlantic Sun Player of the Week
MACON, Ga. – After leading the Mercer baseball team to an undefeated 4-0 week, junior third baseman Jacob Tanis was rewarded for his efforts by being named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
Tanis’ A-Sun Player of the Week award is the third of his career and second by a Bear this season, senior Joe Winker took home the award for the week of February 14-20.
Tanis had a monster week for the Orange and Black, hitting .353 (6-for-17) with three doubles, two home runs, six runs scored and 10 RBI.
The Peachtree City, Ga. native went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in a huge 6-3 over No. 9 Georgia Tech on April 19. Tanis followed up that performance with quite possibly his best single game showing of the season, going 2-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored in a 12-2 victory over Lipscomb on April 23.
With his two home runs against Lipscomb, Tanis increased his career total to 45 which is currently tied for fifth-most on the A-Sun all-time list.
For the season, Tanis is hitting .360 and as of April 24 ranks third in the nation in RBI (57), tied for fifth in total bases (113), eighth in runs scored (49) and 11th in home runs (12).
Mercer returns to the diamond on Monday when it travels to Kennesaw to play a non-conference mid-week game with Kennesaw State. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
