MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team held its Pro Scout Day on Saturday morning at Claude Smith Field.

12 scouts representing multiple Major League Baseball teams made their way to Macon to attend the event.

“Glad to see our guys come out and play well in front of the scouts in attendance, including the head of the MLB Scouting Bureau,” head coach Craig Gibson said. “Thought it was a good day for our draft eligible guys and we are excited about finishing out our fall practice strong and getting off to a good start once February rolls around.”

The Bears capped the event with a nine inning inter-squad scrimmage. Among the pitchers who threw in the contest were seniors Justice French, Russell Moses and J.T. Odom, juniors Brandon Love, David Randall, Jacob Matthews and Bronson Gagner and sophomore Matt McCall.

Among some of the highlights during the game was a two home run effort by sophomore shortstop Evan Boyd and a great running grab against the outfield wall by junior Billy Burns to rob freshman Derrick Workman of extra bases.

As a reminder, fans are encouraged to come out to watch the Bears play on the weekends this fall. Every weekend in October Mercer plays three inter-squad scrimmages including a five-inning game on Friday’s at 4:30 p.m., a nine-inning game on Saturday’s at 11:15 a.m. and a six-inning game on Sunday’s at 2 p.m. Admittance is free and all are welcomed to attend.
