French Honored with Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week Award
MACON, Ga. – After leading the Mercer baseball team to an undefeated 4-0 week, senior starting pitcher Justice French was named the Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
French’s A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award is the first of his career and third weekly award given to a Bear this season. Senior Joe Winker and junior Jacob Tanis were each named the A-Sun Player of the Week for the weeks of February 14-20 and April 17-24, respectively.
French had a huge week on the mound for Mercer, compiling a 1-0 record with a 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched.
French made his first appearance out of the bullpen this season against SEC power Georgia on May 11 and picked up the win after throwing four scoreless innings of relief. The Suwanee, Ga. product followed up that performance with a start against USC Upstate on May 15 and didn’t disappoint, going 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on seven hits to go along with six strikeouts.
For the season, French is 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA and has 50 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched.
Mercer returns to the diamond on Tuesday when it plays a non-conference mid-week game with Georgia State. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Claude Smith Field.
