McCarty Wins Final Regular Season Atlantic Sun POTW Award
MACON, Ga. – Senior Tyler McCarty finished his final regular season series in Orange and Black by taking home the last Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honor as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
It was the third weekly A-Sun award for Mercer (33-22, 16-11 A-Sun) this season. Sophomore Jacob Tanis collected the Bears first two honors on March 29 and April 12.
McCarty, a designated hitter, garnered the weekly position player accolades, while USC Upstate’s Matt Branham was the week’s top pitcher in the A-Sun.
McCarty propelled Mercer to its fifth-straight A-Sun Conference Championship by helping the Bears take two-out-of-three from Belmont this past weekend. The Griffin, Ga. native was a combined 9-for-14 on the week (.643) to go along with two home runs, eight RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base.
McCarty had a stellar season for the Bears, finishing with a .357 batting average, 75 hits, 49 runs scored, four home runs and 32 RBI. He really heated up in A-Sun play, ranking first on the squad in hits (46) and second in batting average (.390) from his number two lineup position.
Mercer will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when it Jacksonville in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Championship on the campus of Lipscomb University. Game time is set for 3 p.m. on Dugan Field at Marsh Stadium.
