Tanis Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week
MACON, Ga. – Mercer's Jacob Tanis earned his second Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor this season after his performance for the week of April 5-11, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.
The sophomore third baseman carried the Bears offensively by batting .348 (8-for-23) with six home runs, 13 RBI and six runs scored.
"Jacob had a great week for us last week and it looks like he is catching fire at the right time," head coach Craig Gibson said. "He has such a great attitude every day and I hope he keeps hitting and propels us into the A-Sun Tournament."
Tanis garnered the weekly position player accolades, while UNF's John Atteo was the week's top pitcher in the A-Sun.
The Peachtree City, Ga. native set new career-highs in home runs and RBI when he clubbed three home runs and tallied seven RBI in a 15-4 Mercer win over Savannah State on April 7. Tanis hit three more home runs in the Bears A-Sun weekend series against Stetson, including two long balls in game one of its doubleheader against the Hatters on Saturday afternoon.
After this week's action, Tanis leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in multiple statistical categories including runs scored (43), home runs (16), RBI (59) and total bases (118). He currently sits second on the team with a .364 (56-for-154) batting average and sports a creditable .905 fielding percentage at the "hot corner."
Mercer will be back in action on Monday, April 12, when it travels to Tallahassee to take on Florida A&M. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Moore-Kittles Field.
