Baseball Travels to Savannah State For Pair of Mid-Week Tilts

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team looks to build on its big Atlantic Sun series win over Jacksonville when it travels to Savannah State for a pair of mid-week non-conference games.

The Bears will take on the Tigers on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. and again on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, Ga.

"We are excited to get back on the field and keep things rolling along after our great series win this past weekend against Jacksonville," head coach Craig Gibson."Savannah State took one from us last year so we will not be taking them lightly this time around."

Mercer most recently took two out of three in its weekend series against defending A-Sun champion Jacksonville. The Orange and Black received great hitting contributions from multiple sources, none bigger than sophomore Jacob Tanis. The Bears third baseman banged out six hits, drove in three runs and scored three times. Tanis was rewarded for his efforts by being named the Atlantic Sun Conference "Player of the Week" on Monday afternoon.

Savannah State enters Tuesday's match-up with the Bears holding a 9-13 record after taking two-of-three in its weekend series with MEAC member Delaware State. Junior Dexter Kelley leads a potent SSU lineup with a .375 batting average to go along with a team-high 32 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

The Bears and Tigers split last season's games, with both clubs winning on their home fields. Mercer owns a 14-9 lead in the all-time series.
