Baseball Hosts Campbell to Open Conference Play
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team will begin its 2010
Atlantic Sun Conference schedule this weekend when it welcomes
Campbell to Claude Smith Field for a three-game series.
The Bears take on the Camels in game one of the series on Friday
evening at 7 p.m. Games two and three will takes place on Saturday
afternoon at 1 and 4 p.m.
The Orange and Black look to return to the top of the A-Sun
standings after compiling a fifth-place finish with a 12-15
conference record last season.
Mercer (10-4, A-Sun) is entering A-Sun play firing on all
cylinders. The Bears are currently on a six-game winning streak,
their longest winning streak since March of 2008.
Campbell (8-4, 0-0 A-Sun) comes into this weekend's series having
just taken both games of a mid-week series with Atlantic 10 member
LaSalle.
The Camels were picked to finish 10th in the 2010 Atlantic Sun
Preseason Coaches' poll after returning 20 letterwinners back from
a team that went 27-24 last season.
Junior Ellis Lowe currently leads the squad with a .408 batting
average. Sophomore Frank Zier, who is 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA, will
take the mound on Friday night for the Camels.
Campbell owns a 25-22 lead in the all-time series between the two
teams, but Mercer has won five of the last seven contests in the
series.
