Baseball Travels to Florida A&M, Georgia State for Mid-Week Contests
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball team hits the road
for the first time this season at it travels to Florida A&M and
Georgia State for a pair of mid-week non-conference tilts.
The Bears take on FAMU on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. and will
travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Georgia State on Wednesday at 6
p.m.
Mercer (4-4, 0-0 A-Sun) comes into Tuesday's contest having
split its four-game weekend series with Evansville. The Orange and
Black hits the road after playing its first eight games at Claude
Smith Field this season.
FAMU enters play on Tuesday with a 2-3-1 overall record after most
recently tying Savannah State 12-12 on Feb. 27. The Rattlers were
picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the 2010 MEAC Preseason
Coaches' poll after compiling a 14-21 record last season.
The Bears own a 60-23-1 lead in the all-time series against the
Rattlers. Mercer has won four-straight contests over FAMU and will
play the Rattlers three more times this season.
Georgia State enters this week with an 0-5 record after most
recently dropping back-to-back games to A-Sun member USC Upstate on
Feb. 24. The Panthers were picked to finish third in the 2010 CAA
Preseason Coaches' poll after compiling a 39-22 record and a
trip to NCAA Regionals last season.
The Bears hold a 57-42 all-time series lead against the Panthers
in a rivalry that dates back to its first meeting in 1958.
