MACON, Ga. – Mercer University released its 2017 football schedule Tuesday with a challenging 11-game slate that includes seven teams that played in the postseason last year.
The Bears will play five games at Five Star Stadium including the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 31 against Jacksonville. This will mark the second consecutive year that Mercer will open the season with a primetime game on Thursday.
Mercer's home slate includes Jacksonville, Wofford, VMI, Chattanooga and Samford with three of the four Southern Conference home opponents having advanced to the postseason last year. Wofford, Mercer's conference opening opponent, advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season before falling to Youngstown State in double overtime.
The Orange and Black will make two appearances at Southeastern Conference schools this fall with trips to Auburn (Sept. 16) and Alabama (Nov. 18). Both SEC schools reached a bowl game last year with the Crimson Tide advancing to the national championship game of the College Football Playoff.
Times for all games are still to be announced and all dates are subject to change.
