Joel Weems is in his first year as Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance with the Mercer University Athletics Department and will oversee all aspects of the department's compliance operations.

Weems previously served more than eight years as a compliance coordinator with the Ole Miss Compliance Office. Weems worked directly with the men's basketball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track/cross country, and volleyball teams. He also assisted with football.

Weem's collegiate career started in 1995 when he served in the Ole Miss Sports Information Office as an intern. He worked directly with the baseball and volleyball teams as well as assisting with the other sports on campus. His primary duties included serving as the liaison between the media and teams as well as game management operations. Weems began his media relations career at Delta State University in 1993 as a graduate assistant and served as a football manager while working on his undergraduate degree at Arkansas State University beginning in 1988.

Weems received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in 1993. He later earned his Master of Education Degree with an emphasis in History from Delta State University in 1995.

A native of Marion, Ark., Weems is married to Dabney Weems, and they have one child, Layton.
