Volleyball to Challenge SEC Foe Auburn
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer volleyball team returns to action Wednesday night, traveling to Auburn to take on the Tigers. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Auburn, Ala.
Last Time Out
Mercer faced elite competition in its first days of action at the Invitational at Seattle. Mercer challenged three West Coast teams, Eastern Washington, Washington and Seattle at the event. Mercer was winless on the trip to Seattle and aims to capture its first victory of 2010 against Auburn.
Scouting the Opposition
Auburn
Auburn is 3-0 (0-0 SEC) after going undefeated in the War Eagle Invitational against Troy,
Tennessee Martin and Georgia Southern. The Tigers return five starters from last year’s team that finished 16-15 (8-12 SEC).
Auburn was picked to finish second in the SEC Western Division in
a preseason poll conducted by the league’s coaches.
Sarah Bullock has led Auburn offensively through its first three matches, averaging 4.57 kills per set.
Game Notes
Mercer libero Charlotte Harris is off to a stellar start in 2010, averaging 5.36 digs per set through the first four matches. Harris’ dig total ranks her third among Atlantic Sun players.
Mercer and Auburn have met four times and Auburn holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series. Mercer claimed its first and only win against the Tigers when MU head coach Noelle Rooke guided her team to a 3-1 victory on August 30, 2008.
Last time Mercer met Auburn, Rachel Urbelis had a team-high 12 kills in just the second collegiate match of her career. Urbelis also added 11 digs to notch her first career double-double performance.
