MACON, Ga. – After leading the Mercer volleyball team to a 14-17 (6-4 A-Sun) record and the five-seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun conference championship, junior libero Charlotte Harris has been honored as a All-Conference first team selection in an announcement made by the conference office Tuesday.  Harris also captured the coveted Libero of the Year honor, as selected by the league’s coaches.

Harris’ selection marks the first time a Mercer player has been tabbed as an All-Conference first team member.  The Chapel Hill, N.C. native is the only non-senior on this year’s first-team.

Harris held the conference lead in digs per set from wire-to-wire, finishing the regular season with a total of 618 digs.  Harris’ league-leading dig total also marked a program-best single-season tally.

“I’m so incredibly proud of Charlotte for this much deserved honor,” head coach Noelle Rooke said.  “She has been a key component in our defense all year and that showed in her stats not only within our conference, but also on the national stage.”

In the most recent NCAA statistical report, Harris’ average of 5.47 digs per set ranks 17th among all Division I players.

“From day one Charlotte set a high standard for herself, and she’s done more than I could have ever asked of her,” Rooke said.

Harris is just one of 14 players in the country with over 600 digs on the season.  Coincidentally, Harris’ 601st dig of the season broke Mercer’s previous single-season dig record, held by Claire Tucker.  Harris notched her 601st dig of the year in the third set of Mercer’s regular season finale versus Kennesaw State.

Harris’ selection as Libero of the Year marks the first individual award for a Mercer player since Julie Darty was named Freshman of the Year in 2006.

Harris and the rest of the Bears return to action in the first round of the conference tournament on Thursday night at 5 p.m. The match, which will be held at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla., pits the No. 5 Mercer against No. 4 Belmont
