MU Tennis Teams at Home this Weekend
MACON, Ga. – Mercer's tennis teams will host East Tennessee State University on Saturday (April 2) in an Atlantic Sun Conference match at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center. Match times versus the Buccaneers will be 10 a.m. for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.
Prior to that, however, the MU women's team will also host Western Carolina University in a non-conference match on Friday (April 1) at 2 p.m. The Bears' women's squad (3-12 overall) will be facing a Catamount team which is 2-9 overall and has had its last two matches washed out by the weather.
ETSU's teams stand atop the A-Sun standings in both the women's and men's circuit. The Buccaneer women are 10-6 overall and 7-1 in the A-Sun. The ETSU men are 13-6 and 7-1 in league.
On the women's side, Mercer freshman Lucie Payrat – playing out of the No. 4 singles position – will be putting her six-match win streak on the line versus WCU. Payrat tops the MU team with a 10-5 overall singles record, the lone Bear with double-digit win totals.
MU men's No. 6 singles player David Barton is having a similar type season for the Bears' men's team. Barton, a junior, is on a six-match win streak overall (a 10-1 record in his last 11 matches) and has an unblemished 7-0 record in A-Sun competition. On the year, Barton has amassed a record of 12-3 which is tops in singles play among the Bears.
