Bears Lose to Butler, 5-2

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's women's tennis squad lost a non-conference match versus Butler University, 5-2, played at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs (8-6) won all three doubles matches to take the first team point of the day. Butler clinched the match with victories in the first four matches off the courts at Nos. 1, 2, 6 and 5 singles. All of the wins were in straight sets.

Mercer's wins came at the Nos. 3 and 4 slots, which were also the last two matches on the courts. At third singles, freshman Aurelie de Montjou won in straight sets over Butler's Gabriella Bobrowski, 6-4, 6-3.

Then, at fourth singles, fellow freshman Frenchman Lucie Payrat scored a three-set win. Payrat dropped a tough 7-5 decision to the Bulldogs' Brittany Farmer, but bounced back to plow through Farmer in the second set, 6-4. The tandem were knotted at 6-6, but Payrat won the tie-breaker by a 7-3 score, and to make the final team score 5-2.
