Hudson Tabbed as A-Sun Player of the Week
MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced Monday that Mercer senior defender Kacie Hudson was named Player of the Week after a gutsy performance in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Campbell this weekend.
The Mercer senior had an outstanding game against the Camels, scoring two goals in the second half to secure her first A-Sun Player of the Week honor of 2010 – her fourth overall in her four-year career. The win moves the Bears into a tie for third position in the A-Sun with just three conference matches remaining.
“Kacie had a big game at a time when we needed it most,” head coach Grant Serafy said. “Not only did she knock in both of our goals but she also played well in the back towards the end of the game.”
With the two goals, Hudson is now the Bears leading scorer on the year with five from her defensive position. Hudson’s accuracy has been deadly as she has scored the five goals on just 12 total shots this season.
Hudson is the team leader is points (10) and goals (5) and has three game-winning goals – good enough for third in the conference. She is also the anchor of the Bears stout defensive backfield, making her offensive accomplishments that much more impressive.
The Bears welcome ETSU (7-6-1, 3-4 A-Sun) and USC Upstate (3-10-2, 1-4-2 A-Sun) to Bear Field this weekend as the 2010 season rolls on toward the Kennesaw State season finale on Oct. 23. The Lady Buccaneers take the field at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 and the Spartans will kick off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17.
