2011 National Signing Day

MACON, Ga. – Fresh off a 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference championship season, Mercer University women's soccer coach Grant Serafy reloaded his roster Wednesday with a corps of six prospective student-athletes on National Signing Day. The Bears will look to replace the loss of seven of the most decorated seniors in program history with this year's class of incoming freshmen.

Serafy welcomed the signatures of six new student-athletes to the Mercer community, many of whom he thinks will have an immediate impact on the quality of the program.

"Overall, it is a good group we have coming in for 2011," Serafy said. "We graduate seven seniors, six of which were major contributors to two championships over the past three years."

The signing list includes: Washida Blackman from Snellville, Ga.; Rachel Buffalo from Longwood,Fla.; Lauren Gassie from Winter Park, Fla.; Stephanie Giangiuli from New Market, Maryland; MacKenzie Stewart from Castle Rock, Colorado and Brianna Stampler from Davie, Fla.

For the second year in a row, Serafy has plucked teammates that have competed on the same club teams. Last season, freshmen standouts Casey Barrett and Nadja Kolliesuah came from the same club team in Ohio and this year Lauren Gassie and Rachel Buffalo teamed up on the Florida Rush Nike Premier club team.

"It will be a task to see which players from this group can step in and contribute and I am confident some will.  I fully expect these players to be part of the continued success of this program and to come in and uphold the great tradition of our soccer program."
