Final Results

GLENCOE, Ala. – Mercer freshmen Mary Alice Murphy and Lacey Fears each finished in the top-10 individually standings as the Bears took a fourth-place finish at the Chris Bannister Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Course.

Host Jacksonville State captured the event title, finishing with a three-day total of 899.  Lamar (927) and Florida Gulf Coast (927) edged out Mercer (937) for second and third place, respectively.  Butler (946), Samford (950) and Evansville (982) rounded out the seven-team field.

“We had a chance entering the day to set ourselves apart and it just didn’t happen for us,” head coach Gary Guyer said. “We’ll just have to regroup and work harder.”

Murphy carded a 77 in Tuesday’s final round for a three-day total of 230.  Murphy’s 77 moved the Lookout Mountain, Tenn. native into a tie for seventh place with Jacksonville States’ Luz Armijo Fernandez.

Fears signed for an 82 on Tuesday, finishing one stroke behind her classmate and ninth in the final standings.

Sophomores Kimmy Graff and Kaitlin Marrin both shot 78 on Tuesday while Aurelie Wiriath posted an 83.  Graff wrapped up the event tied for 21st while Wiriath tied for 29th.  Marrin took home a 31st place finish.

Mercer returns to action when it hosts the EAT A PEACH Collegiate at Oakview Golf Course in Macon on Sept. 19-20.
