Over Bear-ing: Mercer Cross Country Sweeps Own RunFit Sports Invitational

MACON, Ga. - Mercer Unversity's cross country teams swept both the men's and women's team championships at its own ninth annual Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational, run at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home course.

 

For the MU men, sophomore Chris Svidesskis took top honors with fellow sophomore teammate Andrew Weems placing second overall in the men's 8K event, as the Bears missed a perfect score by a single place (notching 16 points).

 

Sophomore Jacob Law was MU's third finisher and freshman Sony Prosper fourth. Junior Marc Kushinka was in sixth place to round out Mercer's scoring.

 

In the women's 5K race, Mercer took the first through fourth places in the individual standings, totaling 21 points. Sophomore Kacie Niemann won the overall crown, followed by freshman teammate Lena Hamvas in second.

 

The freshman tandem of Linda Batna and Sammy Woller wrapped up the quartet of Bears atop the race standings.
