Mercer Cross Country Hosts Annual Fundraiser 5K

2010 "Feed the Bears" Results

MACON, Ga. - the Mercer cross country program hosted the second annual "Feed the Bears" 5K race on Friday (Aug. 20), bringing 152 participants to the Macon campus.

"This year’s “Feed the Bears” 5K was a great success," said MU head coach Ryan Bailey. "We had over 150 participants despite the unusually hot weather. Fortunately for the runners, there was a short cloudburst just as the 5K got underway and it shed enough rain to cool the competitors down, but not so much that it hampered their performance.

"Despite the hot conditions and the hilly profile of the race-course, the first five competitors finished under 18:00. In addition, the first place finisher for the men broke the tape in 16:48 and the first woman crossed the line in 17:33. These are very respectable times that any race director would be pleased to report!"

The “Feed the Bears” 5K road race and 1 mile fun-run is a fund raising project of the Mercer Men’s & Women’s cross country program.  The race is organized and conducted by Coach Bailey and the student athletes of the Mercer program.  The proceeds from the race directly benefit the student-athletes by providing the main funding for their pre-season “training camp”.
