LEAP of Faith: Men's Lacrosse Gives Back to Community
MACON, Ga. – Mercer University’s men’s lacrosse team recently completed its second weekend doing rehab work on a Macon home as a part of the Local Engagement Against Poverty (LEAP) program. The Bears did painting, cleaned the yard and did repairs to the woodwork as a part of their efforts.
LEAP is a student-led initiative to combat poverty in Macon by committing 10,000 hours of community service related to poverty alleviation in the local community.
MU men’s lacrosse head coach Jason Childs sees involvement in community-based projects, such as LEAP, as an essential part of the Bears’ program.
“I believe our student-athletes have a responsibility to give back to the community in as many ways as we can,” Childs said. “We represent Macon every time we set foot on the field. Likewise, we ask the community to come out and support our team, so it only makes sense that we would want to reach out and try to give back in whatever way we can when called upon.”
