Men’s Golf Inks Evan Usry

MACON, Ga. –  First year Mercer men’s golf coach Steve Bradley announced the signing of his first recruit on Wednesday after inking Evan Usry to a National Letter of Intent.  Usry, who will be eligible to compete in the 2012 fall season comes from Greebrier High School in Evans, Ga.

“We’re really excited about Evan joining the golf team,” Bradley said.  “He’s a really bright kid and he’s got a great future.  We feel he’s going to be a big part of our success moving forward.”

Usry’s scoring average is currently 74.6 after competing in 11 events over the past year.  In those 11 events, he has notched six top-25 finishes.

His best performance over the past calendar year came at the Georgia junior Championship in late June.  Usry followed an opening round 74 with a 69 and 72 in the final two round to finish fifth of 143 competitors.  One month earlier, Usry went 80-74 at the Dublin Junior Classic to place 16th in the 66-golfer field.

At Greenbrier, Usry helped lead the team to the 2009 regional championship.

Usry will join a young Mercer team set to feature three seniors, two juniors and three sophomores in the 2012-13 academic year.
