Men's Golf Earns Prestigious Academic Distinction
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s golf team has earned the President’s Special Recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America in an announcement made by the organization on Monday afternoon. Mercer joined just nine other Division I schools to collect the prestigious academic honor for its performance in the 2009-10 academic year.
“To be one of the top-10 teams in the country speaks volumes about the kind of student-athletes we have,” head coach Andrew Tredway said. “I’m extremely proud of our guys and excited about what they have accomplished both on and off the course.”
The President’s Special Recognition is awarded to teams which post a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. Joining Mercer as recipients were Brown, Butler, DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Duke, East Tennessee State, Gonzaga, Seton Hall and Wofford.
Teams eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors submit grade point averages and hours earned for each player on its official roster during the academic year.
In all, a total of 113 teams submitted GPA’s of 3.0 or higher to garner All-Academic Team distinctions.
