Meason, Kocolowski Earn All-Freshman Honors

MACON, Ga. – Mercer golfers William Meason and Matt Kocolowski both earned a spot on the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team in an announcement made by the conference office Friday.

Meason earned the selection after leading the Bears with a 74.4 scoring average, while Kocolowski averaged 75.8 strokes per outing.  The pair was also the only two golfers to appear in ten or more tournaments for Mercer.

“Matt did a wonderful job for us this year,” Mercer head coach Andrew Tredway said.  “I’m so proud of what he accomplished on the course and in the classroom.  He had moments of brilliance this year and I think this award is a reflection of that.”

Kocolowski’s flashes of brilliance were common as the freshman posted two top-20 finishes, including a career-best seventh-place finish at the Rees Jones Invitational on Oct. 6.  Recently, Kocolowski took medalist honors at a local qualifier for the US Open, besting 93 other competitors.

Meason, Kocolowski and their classmates - Alex Street and Thomas Holmes - were among the top freshman classes in the nation, finishing the year ranked 19th in Golfstat’s Freshman Impact Rankings.

“Matt is such a competitor and if he keeps it simple and progresses, he’ll win all kinds of awards throughout his career at Mercer,” Tredway said.
