MACON, Ga. – Mercer head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman announced the complete 2014-15 schedule on Tuesday, revealing a 31-game slate highlighted by the Great Alaska Shootout and 14 home games at Hawkins Arena.
"This schedule will serve as a great test for our young players," Mercer Associate Head Coach Spencer Wright said. "Our non-conference schedule should help prepare us for the exciting new challenge of competing in the Southern Conference."
After joining for the annual intrasquad Orange and White scrimmage on Nov. 9, Mercer officially opens the year against Piedmont College on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The Bears then hit the road to play Seton Hall in New Jersey on Nov. 16 before returning home to rekindle an in-state rivalry with Kennesaw State on Nov. 19.
The final tune up before heading to the Great Alaska Shootout comes on Nov. 23 at Colorado State. The Bears then head north to Anchorage to open the Great Alaska Shootout against Rice on Thanksgiving evening at 9:30 p.m. EST. The three-round tournament-style event will also see the Bears in action on Friday and Saturday of that week.
Upon returning to Macon, Mercer opens a four-game homestand against St. Andrews on Dec. 2. Other contests in the home stretch include Mercer's Southern Conference debut against VMI on Dec. 6 and non-conference tilts with Dartmouth (Dec. 16) and Bethune-Cookman (Dec. 19).
The final three games of the non-conference schedule all come on the road against Southeastern Conference foes. The Bears are set to play at Tennessee on Dec. 22, at Georgia on Dec. 27, and at Texas A&M on Dec. 29.
In January and February, Mercer plays 17 games against SoCon opponents, eight of which at Hawkins Arena. The 18-game SoCon schedule leads up to the SoCon Tournament, to be played March 6-9 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C.
