Men’s Basketball Featured in Mid-Major Poll

MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's basketball is among teams receiving votes in the season's first release of the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Poll, posted by the outlet on Monday.  The Bears garnered 50 points in the poll, as voted on by 31 coaches from mid-major programs.

"When you look at the teams that are listed, a lot them are rated in the top 25," Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman said.  "To be mentioned and know you're in the midst of those teams is tremendous.  We're trying to continue our growth and we're excited for this year."

Mercer's 50 points places the team between Belmont (51) and Murray State (42) in the Receiving Votes section.  Other Atlantic Sun schools in the poll include Florida Gulf Coast with 267 points and USC Upstate with 11 points.

"Our league has become more recognized from the recent success of our teams in March," Hoffman said.  "We've had multiple teams make runs in the postseason and I think people are starting to look around and say this league is really good.  I think it's going to happen again as well."

Mercer debuted in the poll at No. 14 last season and fluctuated throughout the rankings for the majority of the year.  The 2013-14 schedule includes seven games against teams featured in the poll, including non-conference matchups with Denver, Ohio and Valparaiso.
