Gibson and Tanis Honored by Georgia Dugout Club
For Gibson, it is the second Coach of the Year award he has raked in after a breakout season in his seventh year at Mercer. Gibson was also pegged as the Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year by SEBaseball.com after guiding the Bears to the A-Sun Championship and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Tanis continues to pile up the awards after putting together one of the most impressive seasons statistically in school history. The Peachtree City, Ga. native led the team in home runs (22), RBI (88) totals bases (197) and slugging percentage (.735), parleying his performance into a 26th Round (800th overall) selection in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
Tanis’ can now add the honor from the Georgia Dugout Club to a long list of awards he has collected for his play in 2010. Those awards include being named to the SEBaseball.com All-Atlantic Sun first team, the ABCA/Rawlings Division I All-South Region second team, the A-Sun All-Conference first team and the Louisville Slugger All-American third team.
