MACON, Ga. – Mercer University has announced that it has once again partnered with Fox Sports 1670 AM and The Peach 96.5 FM to broadcast 49 of the Bears’ women’s and men’s basketball games during the 2011-12 season, as well as all post-season games by both MU teams.

Fox 1670 AM and The Peach 96.5 FM are owned and operated by Clear Channel Radio. The stations are the home for Mercer Athletics, also carrying Bears’ baseball and softball in the spring.

The announced slate of games has 32 of MU’s men’s basketball contests - home and away - being carried live on The Peach 96.5 FM. The list includes one exhibition contest and all 31 regular season games, with all post-season games being covered, as well.  The opening men’s broadcast will be the home exhibition game with Georgia College on Nov. 3.

The women’s team – which will have its games aired on Fox Sports 1670 AM – has a package of 17 scheduled broadcasts (all of them regular season games). The MU women’s squad opens its radio schedule at home on Nov. 11 with the big Homecoming Game versus Auburn. Like the men, all Bears’ women’s basketball post-season games will also be broadcast by Clear Channel.

“We are excited to once again be partnering with Clear Channel to carry our basketball games,” MU Director of Athletics Jim Cole said. “The radio broadcasts are an important tool which enables us to help tell everyone about the great things we have going on with our athletics programs. It also helps to bring our teams closer to the community and our fan base.”

Rick Cameron will once again serve as the play-by-play announcer for Mercer basketball.  Cameron is Mercer’s senior assistant vice president for marketing communications and was the men’s and women’s basketball public address announcer for six years before moving over to become the “Voice of the Bears” over the airwaves.

The radio broadcasts make it possible for fans to listen to games through the web on MercerBears.com or the home sites from either station.  Additionally, the downloadable iHeartRadio application affords fans the opportunity to listen to games via their iPhone, Blackberry and Droid smart phones from virtually anywhere.

Air time for all games will be approximately 15 minutes prior to scheduled tipoff time.
