MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s basketball team returns to action on Monday, hosting USC Upstate in the University Center at 7:30 p.m.

Monday’s matchup marks the second go-around between the teams this season. On Jan. 15, Mercer topped USC Upstate, 60-57 in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Bears are currently 11-12 (7-6 A-Sun) after falling at Kennesaw State, 66-63 on Feb. 4. USC Upstate (4-18, 4-9 A-Sun) enters the meeting with Mercer fresh off a 68-64 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday night.

USC Upstate returns three starters from last year’s team that finished 9-21 (8-12 A-Sun). USC Upstate was picked to finish tenth among A-Sun competition in a pair of preseason polls conducted by the league’s coaches and the media. USC Upstate center Nick Schneiders was selected as an A-Sun preseason all-conference player after averaging 9.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a year ago.

This year, Schneiders is one of the league’s most dominant defenders, leading the league in blocked shots (70). The next closest player in that category, Kennesaw State’s LaDaris Green, has tallied 42 blocks this season. Schneiders leads the Spartans in both scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) this year.

USC Upstate is 2-10 in road games while Mercer is 6-4 at the University Center.
