Mercer University’s air rifle team braved the winter storm which swept through the middle of the country to participate in three competitions in Tennessee and Kentucky. The Bears took aim at the University of Tennessee-Martin Invitational on January 28, and then pulled a doubleheader by participating in both the University of Memphis Open and Murray State Withrow Invitational on January 29.
Cam Yearty led MU at the UT-Martin event, posting a score of 536, good for 57
th place out of 77 competitors. Teammate
Laura Weitnauer registered a score of 502 for her six-target series, while
Jon Podriznik had an aggregate tally of 500.
Yearty’s 546 score at Memphis pushed him to an 11th out of 25 finish among the individual entrants. Yearty’s 97 on his third target was the best tally for a Mercer shooter.
Podriznik was 17th place with a 505 score.
Mercer closed a grueling day at the Withrow Invitational at Murray State, led by Podriznik’s score of 531. Yearty was the Bears’ second finisher with 530 and Weitnauer third with a 502.
