MACON, Ga. - Mercer University's rifle team opened its spring portion of the 2009-10 season on Sunday morning by hosting the University of Tennessee at Martin in a dual competition at The Charles Roberts Rifle Range in Mercer’s University Center.
The Skyhawks’ women’s team won the air rifle competition with a score of 2,297, followed by UTM’s mixed team at 2,283. The Bears’ mixed team had a composite score of 2,011 for the day.
Individually for Mercer,
Cameron Yearty led the team with a score of 546 for his six targets. The junior posted a score of 95 on his third target and a 94 on his fourth for his top two efforts. Yearty finished in 10
th place, overall.
Senior
Jon Podriznik and junior
Laura Weitnauer each scored 507 totals for the Bears. Podriznik was given 11
th place and Weitnauer 12
th, based on their scores for target No. 6 (where Podriznik outdistanced his teammate, 89-87).
UTM sophomore Kellie Zurowski was the overall winner of the competition with a score of 579. Zurowski also posted the only perfect score of a 100 on her fourth target, which she followed with a 99 on her fifth series.
Mercer will next be in action on January 23 for a competition at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville.
