Macon, Ga. -
In just two seasons in a Mercer uniform sophomore midfielder Olivia Tucker has quickly distinguished herself as one of the dominant players in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and on Monday the breadth of her accomplishments lengthened.

Tucker was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for her outstanding 2009 on-field performance and named her to the All-Southeast Region Third-Team. It is the first such distinction by the NSCAA for a Mercer women’s soccer player and the Peachtree, Ga. native.

“Olivia is a tremendous player and to be recognized as one of the best in the Southeast as a sophomore is an incredible accomplishment and one we are all proud of,” Mercer head coach Grant Serafy said. “She is a great competitor and certainly deserving of this honor.”

Just over a month ago, Tucker was named to the A-Sun All-Conference First Team for her eight goals and three assist performance in 2009. Serving as captain of the Bears squad, Tucker found herself among some elite company on the list of the All-Southeast players. Players from the likes of North Carolina, Florida State, Duke, Boston College and Wake Forest rounded out the NSCAA’s selections.

Tucker has served as the backbone of the Bears offense for the past two seasons scoring 18 goals and posting six assists. She ranked among the best in the A-Sun in goals, shots on goal and points per game this season and still has two years of eligibility for the Orange and Black.
