MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men’s golf freshman class has been ranked 11th in the nation according to the Golfstat Top 25 Freshman Class Impact Rankings.

Matt Kocolowski, and
Thomas Holmes highlight Mercer’s freshman class that has combined for an average score of 75.87 in the team’s first three tournaments.
The Golfstat report, released Oct. 19, combines the contributing scores from each NCAA Division I school’s freshmen players and the difficulty of each school’s competition into a strength rating. Mercer ranks 11th in the report with a rating of 287.265. Duke University tops the report with three players among its top five and a rating of 512.332.
"Our four freshmen are off to a great start this year," Mercer head coach Andrew Tredway said. "They are really doing a lot for this team and hopefully they can continue to learn and mature and in turn move up this list. They are proving to themselves that they belong among the very best in the nation."
Collectively, Mercer’s freshmen started their collegiate careers on the right foot with a solid showing at the VCU Shootout on Sept. 28-29. Meason placed in a tie for 30th individually with a three-round, 222 (+6). Kocolowski tied for 72nd at the VCU tournament with a 234 (+18).
In Mercer’s next showing, both Meason and Kocolowski placed top ten finishes to pace the Bears at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate. Holmes finished tied for 48th with a 242 (+10).
A week later, at Mercer’s own Brickyard Collegiate, Meason and Kocolowski both played even-par golf through the first two rounds before the final day of competition was cancelled. Meason and Kocolowski finished tied for 15th place individually. Holmes turned in a 151 (+7) to help Mercer finish in 13th place, ahead of Penn State and then No. 18 Michigan.
Mercer returns to action on Oct. 26 at the Aldila Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn.
