Round Three Pairings
MACON, Ga. – Mercer freshmen William Meason and Matt Kocolowski both finished round two under par, highlighting Mercer’s day two of the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship. As a team, Mercer turned in a seven-over 295 and stands in 13th place with one round remaining.
“We’re proud of our two freshmen hanging in there well today,” Mercer head coach Andrew Tredway said. “It was good experience for them to play in front of quite a few people today.”
Meason started hot on the second day of competition, carding two birdies through his first three holes. Meason would add two additional birdies on his ninth and 18th hole en route to his team-best 70. Meason has recorded 144 (E) swings through the first two rounds of play.
Kocolowski’s round two 71, in conjunction with his round one 73, ties the Apopka, Fla. native with his classmate Meason after two rounds. Kocolowski and Meason also share 15th place with Georgia Tech’s James White, Virginia Tech’s Mikey Moyers, Clemson’s Jacob Burger, and LSU’s Clayton Rotz.
As a team, Mercer improved upon its round one 299 by four strokes. Seniors Matt Tribby and Matt Smith both needed 79 strokes to complete round two.
With one round remaining, Mercer holds a two stroke lead on Penn State and an eight stroke lead on No. 18 Michigan.
Augusta State (-13) extended its lead on the field during the second round of play. As a team the Jaguars are 13 strokes ahead of Clemson and Chattanooga (E). Georgia (+3) and VCU (+8) round out the top five teams.
“We got off to a great start and finished well today,” Tredway said. “The guys were working hard after their rounds today, so hopefully we can make something happen in the final round.”
The third and final round of the Brickyard Collegiate Championship is slated to begin tomorrow, Oct. 12, at 8:30 a.m.
