Mercer Athletic Foundation’s Donor Drive a Smashing Success

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Athletic Foundation announced Tuesday the results of its 2014 Donor Drive, revealing unprecedented success thanks to the contributions of numerous donors and primary sponsors Five Star Automotive and Cherokee Brick.

The Donor Drive elicited 388 gifts, shattering the goal of 200 contributions during the week of March 3-9.  The gifts resulted in the total accumulation of $100,000, enough to fully fund Mercer’s ESPN3 initiative.

“The outpouring of support for this challenge has been incredible,” said Brian Gerrity, Executive Director of the Mercer Athletic Foundation.  “I would like to thank all 388 people who made gifts towards this initiative.  Donors, fans, Foundation board members, parents, alums, and local businesses all came together to ensure we reached our goal.”

Months of strategic planning and cultivation of required infrastructure culminated in Mercer's acceptance onto ESPN's live multi-screen sports network in late February.  Three men’s basketball games were broadcast on ESPN3, and plans are in place to expand programming to additional sports at a later time.

“This program would not have been possible without the generous matching gifts from Five Star Automotive and Cherokee Brick,” Gerrity continued.  “Their substantial support for this initiative played a huge role in motivating our supporters to give back.  I hope everyone who took part in the Donor Drive Challenge feels good knowing that they played a part in bringing Mercer Athletics to a national audience”

ESPN3 is currently available to more than 85 million homes at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider.  The network is also available at no cost to approximately 21 million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel on computers, smartphones and tablets connected to on-campus educational and on-base military broadband and Wi-Fi networks.

All games included in the ESPN3 package are available through WatchESPN, accessible online at, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members, Apple TV and Roku.
